Today dish is poutine. No it has nothing to do with that Russian guy that’s always on the news, it’s probably the best drinking food that Canada has come up with. Oops, spoiler alert, the dish does come from somewhere in Canada. Where exactly you ask? Storytime!
Okay, so here it goes, Quebec says they created it, but who the f*#k knows. There is a dish that predates this one by about fifty years coming from the UK with similar ingredients around the early 1900s. One common tale told is that a frequent customer in Le Café Ideal (a restaurant in Warwick Quebec, circa the 1950’s) requested it and the chef basically said you’re crazy ça va faire une maudite poutine! (which basically means that shit is going to be a mess). Poutine became the name of the dish the end.
What is it?
Fries, cheese curds, and gravy. The greasier the better. Mine has steak on top, because why not.
